The New England Revolution announced on Monday the acquisition of Mali international Kalifa Cisse, who will join the club for the 2013 MLS season.

The French-born defensive midfielder, who can also slot in at central defense, spent eight years in Portugal and England, most recently as a part of the Bristol City side that finished 20th in the League Championship. He is the second central midfield signing in recent days for the Revs, who also brought back Welsh midfielder Andy Dorman last week.

The Revolution also released four players on Monday, placing Blake Brettschneider, Flo Lechner, Alec Purdie, and Michael Roach on waivers and making them available for the league's Waiver Draft, which is slated for Monday afternoon.
