Luka Modric: Rated by Darijo Srna as one of the finest playmakers in world football
Darijo Srna believes Croatia team-mate Luka Modric deserves to be gracing the biggest stages in football and that he may be forced to leave Tottenham in order to reach that level.
Speculation regarding the Spurs playmaker's future has resurfaced, following a lengthy transfer saga in 2011 which saw him heavily linked with a move to Chelsea.
The Blues are understood to still be keen on doing a deal, while Manchester United would also welcome the opportunity to add Modric's creative talents to the Old Trafford ranks.
Srna understands why his international colleague is attracting so much interest, with it his opinion that the 26-year-old is among the best midfielder's in the business.
He feels Modric would not look out of a place at a Premier League title challenger, or at a leading club in the Spanish Primera Liga.
Quality
"He is one of the best in the world in his position," said Srna.
"The quality of his passing is unbelievable. Not his ability to provide assists, but his ability to unsettle opponents.
"He could win the Ballon d'Or if he plays for a very big club. I have always said that to him.
"Chelsea want him, Manchester United too. Luka would also shine in Spain.
"At the moment it is difficult for him. I respect Tottenham and their great players, but they are a club that will never be crowned champions of England."
