I want to win title this season and many more after that
SERG FORWARD ... Aguero wants to kick on with City

SERGIO AGUERO is convinced Sunday will be just the start of a glory-laden future for Manchester City.

Victory over QPR will clinch the club’s first title in 44 years.

But, if the Argentine star has anything to do with it, fans will not have long to wait before more silverware fills the Etihad.

Aguero’s goals this season have helped City into pole position.

And the striker said: “I want to win the title this season — and then many more seasons with City after that.

“We have had a great season but there is so much more to come from this team.”

Aguero, 23, insists the celebrations will not be confined to the blue half of Manchester if they take neighbours United’s crown this weekend.

Many of his fellow countrymen back in South America have adopted City as their second team through their Argentine connections, with Pablo Zabaleta and Carlos Tevez also in the squad.

He said: “Argentinians love good football — and City have played some great football this season. They appreciate that back home and it makes the team very popular.

“We have three Argentine players in the squad and that generates more buzz.

“Premier League games are shown live on TV, too, and that’s also a boost.”

But even the Argies cannot love Aguero as much as the City faithful. The former Atletico Madrid hitman wears Kun Aguero on his shirt — a childhood nickname given to him by his grandparents thanks to his resemblance to a cartoon character of the same name.

But that does not lend itself to any chants from City’s fans. They have no special song for their hero and just repeat his first name.

The pronunciation is not what it should be but Aguero said: “I like it, it’s original.

“In Argentina it was ‘Aguero, Aguero’ and in Spain they chanted ‘Kun, Kun, Kun’. Now it’s ‘Sergio, Sergio’.

“I know how the City fans say it. It’s pronounced ‘Sehr-hee-ho’ in Spanish but it’s fun to hear the Mancunians’ ‘Ser-gee-o’.

“I know the fans can come up with new songs on their own and I’ll always welcome new ones.”

Aguero cost City a club-record £35million last summer but has hit 29 goals this season — 22 of them in the Premier League.

And, not surprisingly, the prolific striker’s goals have made him an idol at City — just as they did at Independiente and Atletico before.

He said: “It’s always gratifying to be considered an important member of the team by the fans and hearing your name being echoed around the stadium is quite a rush.

“It makes me want to give even more when I go out on the pitch.

“But being held in high regard is only useful if it’s useful for the team, so that we can reach our goals every season.

“The backing our fans give to me gives me confidence and I try to pay it back by playing my best football.”

Aguero took no time at all to get used to English football, banging in eight goals in his first five league games for City.

He added: “I was able to adapt quickly, to the team and to the Premier League.

“That was all due to my teammates, the club and the fans.

“But I never hold back in doing my share for the team. If that sometimes means me attempting something a bit different, that’s even better!

“But I’m just happy to take a lucky deflection or tap-in if it helps the team.

“Team goals are great for everyone but if I can produce something memorable every now and then, you won’t find me complaining.

“Every goal is special and I enjoy each one I score.”

Aguero has played alongside both Edin Dzeko and Mario Balotelli for City this season. But his recent partnership with Tevez really sparked City’s title charge back into life.

They shared out nine goals as Roberto Mancini’s men thumped West Brom, Norwich and Wolves to start a run of six successive victories.

That wiped out United’s eight-point lead at the top. The two clubs go into Sunday’s final games level on points — but, crucially, City are eight ahead on goal difference.

And, contrary to some suggestions that this might be his one and only season at City, Aguero says he is as happy off the field as he is on it.

His wife is Diego Maradona’s daughter Giannina — the pair have a three-year-old son Benjamin — and the father-in-law is a regular visitor.

The pair ventured into the David Lloyd Leisure club in Cheadle one early evening a few months ago for a game of tennis, much to the excitement of staff and members.

Maradona also popped into the Etihad for City’s crucial derby triumph over United last week.

That put City back in the driving seat in the title race and they held on to that advantage with a 2-0 victory at Newcastle on Sunday.

It’s so close now.

And if, as expected, City finish the job off this weekend then nobody will have done more to earn his title medal than the one the fans call ‘Ser-gee-o’.
