Bologna extended their unbeaten run to four games as they earned a valuable point in a 1-1 draw at Siena.
Mattia Destro had put Siena ahead early in the second half before Bologna striker Alessandro Diamanti equalised with a free-kick with 21 minutes remaining.
Neither side could find a winner as both teams were happy to settle for a point apiece at the Artemio Franchi stadium in their battle to remain in Serie A.
The result has lifted Siena to 12th position, one place and one point clear of Bologna, and eight points above the relegation zone with four games to go.
Siena went into the encounter looking for their fourth win in their last five games.
They dominated possession and almost went in front in the second minute when Andrea Rossi's hard drive from 30 yards was kept out by Bologna goalkeeper Federico Agliardi.
Rossi then wasted a good chance midway through the first half when Franco Brienza fed him in the box and his left-footed strike went wide.
On the stroke of half-time, Destro got behind Brienza's cross and his header went off target.
Siena's efforts paid off in the 52nd minute when Alessandro Gazzi headed a corner towards the Bologna area and the ball fell to Destro, who struck past Agliardi from six yards.
On the hour mark, Robert Acquafresca's header from Gyorgy Garics' cross went over the bar as Bologna went in search of the equaliser.
Their efforts paid off when Simone Vergassola gave away a dangerous free-kick after a late tackle on Diamanti.
Siena goalkeeper Zeljko Brkic was unable to save Diamanti's powerful shot towards the top right corner.
