Atalanta 1 : 2 Siena - Destro destroys Atalanta hopes

An injury-time goal from Mattia Destro earned Siena a dramatic 2-1 win at Atalanta.

It was a come-from-behind victory for them too, having trailed to Ezequiel Schelotti`s sixth-minute opener.

But they levelled through Marcelo Larrondo`s penalty and, with time running out, Destro`s effort found the corner and pushed the Bianconeri into the top half of the table, some eight points clear of the drop zone.

Atalanta may consider themselves unlucky, though, having had chances of their own.

They started well and went close through Simone Tiribocchi after three minutes, and then took the lead when Schelotto scored from close range when he took in Federico Peluso`s pass.

The lead would not last for long, though, with Larrondo levelling from 12 yards after he had been chopped down by Andrea Consigli.

Tiribocchi then whistle in an effort that skipped wide of the post, before Maximlliano Moralez dragged a shot wide as the home side impressed.

That continued heading into the break, although Siena also shone as Paolo Grossi`s effort was well saved by Consigli, with the keeper also doing well to keep out Destro.

Paulo Grossi tried to get Siena going after the break, shooting wide when well set, with Carlos Carmona responding with a long-range free-kick for Atalanta.

It was anyone`s game and Guillermo Stendardo`s header nearly put the home side in front as time ticked down, before Manolo Gabbiadini flashed a drive over.

Siena would win it, though, with Destro striking in the 92nd minute, giving Consigli no chance from close range.
