ON HIS WAY BACK ... Michael Owen
MICHAEL OWEN hopes to be the ace up Alex Ferguson's sleeve as he looks to recover from injury in time for the title race run-in.
The former England star has been sidelined with a thigh problem since November but is now back in training and nearing a return.
Manchester United boss Ferguson is delighted to have his striker back in the mix, suggesting that Owen could be the one to grab a crucial goal for the champions as the season reaches its climax.
And despite making just four appearances all campaign, the 32-year-old has been spurred on by his manager's words as he steps up his comeback.
Owen said: "Let's hope he's right. I know that if he's in need of a goal and he puts me on, then I'll certainly be hoping and thinking that I could do what he's said.
"It's been a tough few months, seeing the lads running out one way to the pitches and me walking another to the gym.
"The end is nearly in sight. I've just started training again so hopefully in a few weeks I'll be back and hopefully available for selection."
