Everton’s on-loan forward, Landon Donovan, says he would love to join the Merseyside club on a permanent deal, but only when his LA Galaxy contract comes to an end.
“My commitment is for two more years to the Galaxy and we’ll see what happens after this year but I would obviously welcome the opportunity to come back," Donovan told Reuters.
Donovan has just finished his second loan-spell at Everton during the Major League Soccer (MLS) off-season and admits he would love to come back again.
“It would be hard to go to any other club now, so if anything were to happen, I imagine it would be here at Everton,” he said.
However, the American insists he will first honor his LA Galaxy contract before deciding anything.
“I know for sure I’m going back to LA this year, but we’ll see," Donovan stated.
Donovan has impressed during his two loan spells in the Premier League and, despite already being 29, he believes he will still have something to offer in two years time.
“There is no question that as you get older your desirability to European clubs diminishes," Donovan explained. “But I think I can still perform at a high level and I think that if guys are doing it 36, 37 then I hope I can still do it at 32, 33.”
Donovan has made five assists in his loan spell and had become a key member of David Moyes’ side.
Everton will now be without Donovan for the remainder of the season but manager Moyes will hope his side can continue their recent form and seal a top 8 finish.
