Atletico signs midfielder Turan from Galatasaray

Atletico Madrid has signed Turkey midfielder Arda Turan from Galatasaray on a four-year deal.

Atletico says Turan will undergo the standard medical examination on Friday before linking up with his teammates on Tuesday. Galatasaray says on its website Atletico paid ?12 million ($17 million) for the team’s captain.

Turan scored 45 goals in 184 appearances for the Istanbul-based club, which has won two league trophies since his debut in 2004. He has scored nine goals in 45 appearances for Turkey, which he helped lead to the semifinals at Euro 2008.
