Atletico Madrid close in on Turkey winger Turan

ISTANBUL, Aug 9 (Reuters) - Atletico Madrid have started negotiations with Galatasaray to buy Turkey left winger Arda Turan, the Turkish club said on its website on Tuesday (www.galatasaray.org).

The 24-year-old Galatasaray captain, who has more than 40 caps, is a product of the youth system at the club who struggled last season and finished eighth in the domestic league.

Turkish news channel NTV reported that the La Liga side would pay a transfer fee of 12 million euros ($17 million) for Turan who helped Turkey reach the Euro 2008 semi-finals. ($1 = 0.703 Euros)
