He recalled: "She said, 'If I tell you, Dad, it will be a burden on you and I don't want you to have to carry that with you'.
"Imogen has told me that it was just a quick fling at first, but then things gathered pace and, before she knew it, she was deeply in love with him."
Charles, an education welfare officer for a local authority in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, now fears for his daughter's health.
He said: "This is causing Imogen so much strain. I've never seen her as low as she is now.
"I'm scared she'll go even lower. She was prescribed anti-depressants and sleeping pills because she has hardly slept this past two months. She looks drained of all her energy and she says she hates leaving her flat.
"She feels terribly sorry for the hurt the affair must have caused his wife. But she can't change the fact that the affair happened.
"What can be changed is the claim that she is a blackmailer."
