ABOVE: Nemanja Vidic claims their semi-final tie is far from over
NEMANJA VIDIC has a burning hunger to win the Champions League this season and make up for the misery of 2009.
Manchester United lost in the final to Barcelona that year and could face them again if they get past Schalke and Barca beat Real Madrid.
Nemanja Vidic claims their semi-final tie is far from over, despite a 2-0 win in Germany in the first leg.
But the skipper has one eye on making up for his heartache two years ago by lifting the trophy at Wembley on May 28.
He said: “In a final you remember the way you lose. It’s on your mind and you want to play again and want to win. It drives you on.
“But I think this team, it has a hunger – and not just for the Champions League. You have to perform week in, week out.
“But we have a big squad and some of the players that didn’t perform in the first half of the season, their form is getting better now.”
Singling out Wayne Rooney as a player who has come good when it matters most, the Serbian centre- back added: “I think he’s our star player. He needed some regular games because he was injured.
“He didn’t have the best first half to the season, but his fitness is good now and he’s a great player.
“It was a great result. To score two goals means we have a big advantage, but we need to respect our opponents.
“They scored five goals in the San Siro against Inter Milan. We need to be careful and approach the second leg in the right way.”
