Brescia threw away a two-goal lead as they had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw with fellow-strugglers Lecce.

Two goals in as many minutes from Andrea Caracciolo and Davide Zoboli had given the home side the edge, but Lecce hit back through Daniele Corvia and Gianni Munari.

Brescia made a positive start and Alessandro Diamanti tried his luck after four minutes with a shot from distance which flew over the crossbar.

Diamanti threatened again 10 minutes later with a strike from the edge of the box. That was parried by Antonio Rosati but only as far as Panagiotis Kone, who somehow scooped the rebound over from a few yards out.

The breakthrough came after 17 minutes though, with Marco Zambelli providing the cross for Caracciolo to head past a helpless Rosati.

Lecce had not had time to regroup when they found themselves further behind as Diamanti whipped in a corner which Zoboli dispatched into the top of the net.

The visitors eventually managed to settle and were back in the contest after 31 minutes thanks to Corvia, who struck a low shot into the bottom right corner from 20 yards.

Brescia were now beginning to feel the pressure and they almost conceded again when Djamel Mesbah was given room to hit a left-footed strike which went narrowly over.

The hosts tried to restore their two-goal advantage at the start of the second half but Caracciolo was wasteful in turning Diamanti's free-kick past the post from close range.

And Lecce made them pay for that miss after 70 minutes when Munari capitalised on a botched clearance from defender Victor Hugo Mareco to fire home from 15 yards.

Brescia continued to miss their chances as the match wore on, with Citadin Eder putting a free-kick over the bar before Caracciolo planted his shot past the left post.

They thought they had snatched the win in stoppage time, however, when Caracciolo flicked the ball in following a deflection from team-mate Gaetano Berardi.

But the goal was not allowed to stand with Berardi deemed to be standing in an offside position.
