LONDON (AP)—Tom Huddlestone scored a hotly contested second-half winner Saturday as Tottenham rallied for a 2-1 victory over Fulham and end the host’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season.
Huddlestone’s hard shot in the 64th minute was initially waved off by the linesman because William Gallas was in an offside position. But the decision was overruled by referee Mike Dean as the ball never touched the defender.
AP - Oct 12, 9:17 am EDT 1 of 2 World Soccer Gallery Diomansy Kamara had given Fulham the lead in the 30th, marking his first Premier League start for almost a year by slotting in a cross from Clint Dempsey from five yards.
But Roman Pavlyuchenko equalized shortly after the ensuing kickoff, taking advantage of a moment of brilliance from Rafael van der Vaart. The Dutchman spun and chipped the ball against the crossbar, leaving the Russian striker with an easy tap-in.
Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes kept the score level at halftime with a good save on Kamara’s 18-yard half-volley.
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp gave a surprise start to captain Ledley King, who had been expected to rest ahead of Tottenham’s Champions League match at defending champion Inter Milan on Wednesday. But the defender, who suffers from chronic knee problems, limped off before halftime.
