MILAN (AP)—Samuel Eto’o scored a hattrick and Wesley Sneijder one as defending champion Inter Milan defeated Werder Bremen 4-0 at the San Siro on Wednesday, its first home Champions League match since winning the trophy in May.
Bremen threatened early on, but Inter took advantage of weak defending by the German team to race into a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Inter took the lead in the 21st after Esteban Cambiasso took advantage of indecision in Bremen’s midfield and set the Cameroon striker free in the area.
Eto’o doubled his tally when he ran onto a long pass by Lucio. He then set up Sneijder for the third in the 34th and completed his hattrick when he raced clear and rounded Bremen goalkeeper Tim Wiese to score with nine minutes to go.
