7M - Transfer news LIVE: Chelsea eye shock Henderson move, Real Madrid 'agree' Diomande deal, Stones moves to Inter
Posted Tuesday, July 28, 2026 by 7M Sport

Chelsea are eyeing a shock move for Jordan Henderson this summer, following reports earlier today that the Blues are also looking at signing Danny Welbeck in this window.
Elsewhere, Real Madrid have agreed a deal worth £85million for Yan Diomande, according to reports. In other news, John Stones will reportedly move to Inter Milan this summer after becoming a free agent.
Stones transfer blow
Inter Milan are on the verge of winning the race to sign free agent John Stones, who left Manchester City in June. Juventus made a move over the weekend but appear to have lost out to Inter, with a two-year contract close to being finalised.
Arsenal and Chelsea have also been linked with the centre-back, but the latter are set to sign Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace. Bayern Munich have also had a look, as did Napoli, but it is the Serie A champions who are leading the race.
Julian Alvarez situation
Arsenal have been linked with Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez, but face competition from Real Madrid and Barcelona. Barca and Real have already been rejected by Atletico in furious fashion.
The Blaugrana remain determined to sign Alvarez, but reports in Spain suggest they will not go beyond £86million. The Catalan giants are also unwilling to add any of their key players in a swap deal, following reports suggesting Ferran Torres would move to Atleti.
If Madrid continue refusing to negotiate, Barcelona are prepared to walk away rather than panic-buy another centre-forward. That could leave the door open for Arsenal, who continue to admire the Argentina international as Mikel Arteta searches for a marquee addition to his attack this summer.
Baleba keen on United
Brighton star Carlos Baleba wants to move to Manchester United this summer. The Seagulls' valuation has dropped from around £100million to closer to £70m, potentially making a deal more realistic than it was last summer.
According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Baleba would welcome the opportunity to join United. Man Utd are still assessing several midfield options before deciding whether to make another major signing.
Barcola price tag
Paris Saint-Germain have slapped a £140million price tag on Liverpool and Arsenal target Bradley Barcola. The Premier League rivals have both expressed an interest in the France international, who is open to a move away from Paris this summer.
Barcola, 23, has two years left on his deal at Parc des Princes and will not sign fresh terms in the French capital. The back-to-back Champions League winners are not actively looking to sell at this stage but are exploring deals for Yan Diomande and Monaco's Maghnes Akliouche, which could see Barcola sold.
SunSport revealed last week that the Reds are leading the race over Arsenal to land the PSG star, but they have been told they will have to pay a hefty fee to agree any deal. Chelsea's British record signing of Morgan Rogers for £117m has inflated the market, with the French champions valuing Barcola at more than £20m more than the England man, despite the fact he is not a guaranteed starter under Luis Enrique.
Chelsea's Welbeck interest details
Chelsea are in talks with Brighton over a shock deal to sign striker Danny Welbeck. New Blues boss Xabi Alonso is keen to add experience to his side this summer.
Welbeck, 36, scored 13 goals in 37 appearances for the Seagulls last season. Chelsea have a number of strikers on the book already, with Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Marc Guiu on their pre-season tour of Australia and Asia.
Nicolas Jackson is currently due to join up with the squad in Hong Kong after his holiday. Jackson, however, is a target for Aston Villa, with Chelsea valuing him at £65million. Emmanuel Emegha has also joined from sister club Strasbourg this summer. Welbeck enjoyed a stellar season for the Seagulls last season, coming close to an England recall.
More on Arsenal's Vinicius bid
Arsenal's pursuit of Vinicius Junior will not become any easier if Real Madrid sign Yan Diomande. Madrid are closing in on a deal worth over £100million to sign Diomande from RB Leipzig this summer.
But even if the 19-year-old winger arrives at the Bernabeu, Real are expected to maintain their stance that they want to keep Vinicius. Arsenal are exploring a deal to sign Vinicius, who currently has just one year remaining on his deal at the Bernabeu.
Madrid have opened new talks to tie the Brazilian superstar down to a new long-term contract this week, but are yet to make a breakthrough in negotiations. New boss Jose Mourinho also wants to keep hold of all of his star players this summer; however, if no agreement is reached, Madrid would want to avoid losing Vinicius on a free transfer next year.
The LaLiga club's move for Diomande is understood to have no bearing on their stance that they wish to keep Vinicius. Diomande actually played the majority of his games for Leipzig last season on the right wing, the opposite flank to Vinicius.
Prem champ's new club
Former Manchester City and Nottingham Forest ace Stefan Ortega is set to join Olympiacos. Ortega is flying to Athens on Tuesday to finalise his move to the Greek giants and sign his contract.
The goalkeeper agreed on a one-year deal with the option to extend until 2028, worth north of £1.3m per season. This clears the way for Olympiacos star Konstantis Tzolakis to move to Hull as outlined below.
Welbeck to Chelsea details
Chelsea are keeping tabs on Brighton star Danny Welbeck in their pursuit of even more Premier League experience within their squad. According to The Athletic, the Blues have opened talks over a potential move for Welbeck as they continue to reshape their attack.
New manager Xabi Alonso sees the 35-year-old as the perfect profile to add to his team in his bid to add Prem knowledge within the West Londoners. Chelsea are expected to look at several forwards this summer, but the ex-Manchester United ace's contract situation has made him an attractive option with just 12 months remaining on his deal.
There is growing optimism that an agreement can eventually be reached if the Blues decide to formalise their interest.
Hull close to star signing
Hull are close to a deal with Olympiacos for star goalkeeper Konstantis Tzolakis. SunSport revealed Tzolakis agreed a four-year contract with the Tigers worth £45,000 per week. We also understand a deal worth £17million has been reached between the two clubs. The Greece international is very close to moving to the MKM Stadium.
Chelsea lead race for Henderson
Chelsea have surprisingly turned their attention to Brentford star Jordan Henderson. According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the Blues lead the race to sign Henderson. The midfielder can leave the Bees on a free transfer and he is open to the move to Stamford Bridge. Two more clubs are interested in the England international during the summer transfer window.
Howe admits Newcastle still need reinforcements
Eddie Howe has admitted Newcastle's summer has been "challenging" after losing key players, with Arsenal continuing to pursue captain Bruno Guimaraes.
Speaking about the club's transfer plans, Howe said: "Ideally, we want to grow the team, so we have taken a hit there. We are then trying to replace but due to financial restraints we are going through a different phase of our recruitment, going very young."
"Those young players need support and time to develop the skills. They are all exciting talents and have great futures ahead of them but we need to be calm with them."
"I think it has been a challenging summer for us, losing Sandro (Tonali) and Anthony (Gordon) has been tough. We don't want to lose our best players."
With Bruno Guimaraes still attracting serious interest from Arsenal, Newcastle are hoping they can avoid another major departure before the transfer window closes.
