The controversy stems from an incident on the pitch between Olmo and Roberto Fabian Ayala, a member of Argentina's coaching staff. Ayala claimed that he only pushed Olmo—denying he threw a punch—and stated his reaction was triggered by a verbal comment from the Spanish midfielder.
