7M - Dani Olmo Rejects Ayala Account of World Cup Incident
Posted Monday, July 27, 2026 by 7M Sport

Dani Olmo has spoken out to challenge the explanation given regarding a post-match altercation following the 2026 FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina.
The controversy stems from an incident on the pitch between Olmo and Roberto Fabian Ayala, a member of Argentina's coaching staff. Ayala claimed that he only pushed Olmo—denying he threw a punch—and stated his reaction was triggered by a verbal comment from the Spanish midfielder. While taking responsibility for his reaction and expressing a desire to apologize in person, Ayala maintained that Olmo instigated the moment.
However, the FC Barcelona attacking midfielder firmly disputed Ayala's version of events, denying that he ever made the alleged comment. Olmo stressed the importance of setting a positive example on and off the field, stating that he wants his family, future children, and the people of Terrassa to take pride not just in Spain’s World Cup triumph, but in how the team conducted itself.
By rejecting Ayala's justification, Olmo has kept the debate active, leaving two conflicting accounts of what occurred after the final whistle.
