7M - Modric Extends AC Milan Contract to Target Champions League Return

Luka Modric has officially signed a one-year contract extension with AC Milan, ensuring the 40-year-old midfielder remains with the Serie A club until at least the age of 41. The Croatian veteran joined the Rossoneri as a free agent last year following a trophy-laden 13-year tenure at Real Madrid, where he collected 28 titles including six UEFA Champions League trophies.

During his debut campaign with Milan, Modric featured in 34 Serie A matches (32 starts), recording two goals, three assists, and creating 51 chances—just one behind team leader Alexis Saelemaekers. Despite his steady individual contributions, a late-season collapse caused AC Milan to finish fifth in the table, missing out on Champions League qualification and leading to the departure of manager Massimiliano Allegri, who has since been succeeded by Ruben Amorim.

Modric, who also started all four matches for Croatia during their round-of-32 run at the World Cup, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season under Amorim:

"After a season below our expectations, the desire to bounce back is immense. A new season and a new challenge await us; a project I believe in and one that truly motivates me."

With AC Milan set to compete in the UEFA Europa League in 2026–27, the squad will complete pre-season friendlies against Celtic, Inter Milan, Chelsea, and Manchester United before launching their Serie A campaign on August 23 against Torino.
