7M - England player ratings: Saka shines with hat-trick but Toney struggles as England edge France in thriller

England secured their best World Cup finish since 1966 with a wild 6-4 victory over France in the bronze-medal match.

In what was unquestionably the most chaotic game of the tournament, Bukayo Saka netted a hat-trick, while Declan Rice, Ezri Konsa and Jude Bellingham also got on the scoresheet to help the Three Lions claim third place.

But despite scoring six goals, it was far from a comfortable afternoon. France mounted a fierce comeback from 4-0 down at half-time, giving England a serious fright in the second period.

Kylian Mbappe bagged a brace to overtake Lionel Messi as the World Cup's all-time leading scorer, with Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele also finding the net. However, their efforts ultimately fell short as France ran out of time to complete a stunning turnaround.

This attacking display, combined with Saka's treble after he was left on the bench against Argentina, is bound to raise further questions for Thomas Tuchel.

DEAN HENDERSON – 7
Earned his sixth cap and first appearance of the tournament. Made a number of solid saves but still ended up conceding several goals in one of the strangest matches you could imagine.

JARELL QUANSAH – 5
Returned to the side following a two-match suspension. France's lacklustre first-half showing made things comfortable early on, but Quansah was given a difficult time by Mbappe and Barcola after the break.

EZRI KONSA – 6
Scored a fine header for England's second goal, shrugging off marker Adrien Rabiot to flick home Rice's corner. The second half proved far more challenging though, as Mbappe caused him all sorts of problems.

MARC GUEHI – 6
Cleared one Mbappe effort off the line that would have been ruled out for offside, but Guehi was not to know that at the time. France's improved second-half display made for an uncomfortable period for the England defence.

DJED SPENCE – 8
Provided an energy that France's dismal first-half performance completely lacked. Won a late penalty with a determined run. A fine tournament for the Tottenham man, who could secure a big move—possibly to Inter Milan—off the back of his displays.

DECLAN RICE – 8
A surprise starter given his physical struggles, but the stand-in captain in Harry Kane's absence was outstanding. Scored a brilliant opener from distance and set up Konsa's second from a corner. This was his 69th appearance of a gruelling campaign.

EBERECHI EZE – 8
With Kobbie Mainoo injured and Jordan Henderson nursing a broken arm, Eze came in to allow Elliot Anderson a rest. Grabbed an assist in the first half and produced a dazzling solo run after that.

MORGAN ROGERS – 6
Started on the day news emerged of his proposed £117million move to Chelsea. Was relatively quiet despite all the goals flying in for England.

BUKAYO SAKA – 9
Admittedly, France were poor in the first half, but still—where has this version of Saka been all tournament? Looked sharp throughout as he struck his second hat-trick for his country, coolly converting a penalty to complete his treble.

IVAN TONEY – 5
Given a start after making his first appearance of the tournament as a 96th-minute Hail Mary substitute against Argentina. Had a header from a corner pushed away by Mike Maignan but otherwise struggled to make an impact.

MARCUS RASHFORD – 7
Caused plenty of problems with his pace down the left during an utterly dominant first half. Registered an assist, could have scored a few himself, and was then withdrawn at the break.
