The United States women's national team entered a new era in 2024, with Emma Hayes making an immediate impact on a group in need of exactly that. Within weeks of starting her new job, the former Chelsea boss guided the U.S. to Olympic gold, sending a message to the rest of the women's game as a new World Cup cycle begins.

The four-time world champion suffered its earliest Women's World Cup exit in Australia in 2023 and Vlatko Andonovski left his role as head coach as a result. It's been a delight for the nation to see the team return to a title-winning level so soon, then. Now, with plenty of time until the next major tournament, the 2027 Women's World Cup, Hayes can focus on developing this exciting young generation of players, ensuring they are ready to challenge for the trophy.

What fixtures has the USWNT had in 2026?

The USWNT kicked off its year in January with a pair of friendlies, welcoming both Paraguay and Chile and putting on two dominant displays to start 2026 in extremely positive fashion. The win over Chile in particular caught the eye, as it was conjured up by the team's most inexperienced line-up in over 20 years.

Hayes' side that backed that up in March, winning the SheBelieves Cup for the eighth time thanks to wins over Argentina, Canada and Colombia. The USWNT didn't concede once during the tournament, either.

A first loss of 2026 came in April, in the second game of the USWNT's three-game series against Japan, but Hayes' side did also emerge with two wins from that international break, as well as a lot of information having come up against one of the best teams in the game.

Another defeat then followed in June, in Brazil, but the U.S. bounced back to defeat the hosts of the 2027 Women's World Cup a few days later, in a game overshadowed by the flurry of red cards dished out in the closing minutes.

What is on the USWNT's schedule in 2026?

Two more official international breaks remain in 2026, including the November window in which the U.S. will participate in the CONCACAF W Championship. The top four teams in that tournament will qualify for the 2027 Women's World Cup, with two more places in the intercontinental play-off tournament also up for grabs. It means the USWNT only has to win one game, against El Salvador, to punch its ticket to Brazil.

The semi-finals of the tournament, to be hosted by the U.S, will take place on December 1, with the play-in matches for the World Cup's inter-confederation play-offs to follow the next day before the third-placed match and the final come on December 5. The quarter-finals, semi-finals and play-in matches will all take place at the Texas Health Mansfield Stadium, with the third-placed match and the final to be held at the Shell Energy Stadium in Houston.

The USWNT will prepare for that tournament with a double-header against Spain, the reigning world champion. La Roja also reached the 2025 European Championship final last summer and will travel to the U.S. in October after securing qualification for the 2027 Women's World Cup in June, thus opening the door for friendlies like that against the 2024 Olympic champion.

How to watch the USWNT in 2026

The rights to broadcast the USWNT are the same as the men’s team and are split across several networks. For English-speaking viewers, the rights are held by Warner Bros and Discovery Sports, with every game live on Peacock and Max (formerly HBO Max). Approximately 50 per cent of games are also shown live across the TNT Sports channels.

Turner channels are available through streaming services like Sling TV and DirecTV Stream.

For Spanish-speaking viewers, the rights are currently with Telemundo Deportes, which streams games on Peacock, Telemundo and Universo.
