7M - Arsenal Join Transfer Race for Atletico Star Julian Alvarez

The future of Julian Alvarez has emerged at the center of another major European transfer saga. Just hours after his spectacular extra time goal against Switzerland secured Argentina a place in the semifinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Arsenal revived their interest in the forward. According to reports from The Independent, the North London club believes that Atletico de Madrid's absolute refusal to negotiate with direct Spanish rivals like Real Madrid or FC Barcelona could open the door for a Premier League side to initiate talks.
Despite the growing external interest, Atletico de Madrid stands firm on their position, continuing to view the Argentine attacker as a foundational cornerstone of their long term project. The club previously demonstrated this resolve by reportedly rejecting an astronomical offer worth around 150 million euros from Real Madrid. While Alvarez previously expressed a desire to fulfill a dream, which was widely interpreted as an interest in moving to Barcelona, he has since avoided discussing club politics to remain fully focused on Argentina's World Cup campaign.
The biggest hurdle for Arsenal remains the financial structure of a potential deal, as the English side is unwilling to meet a valuation close to 100 million pounds, roughly 120 million euros. To bridge this gap, reports suggest Arsenal might consider including Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres as a makeweight, an attacker long admired by the Madrid executives. While Alvarez previously enjoyed immense silverware laden success in the Premier League with Manchester City, his immediate priority remains repeating his Qatar 2022 heroics and leading Lionel Scaloni's squad back to the World Cup final.
