Paolo Maldini named new Italy technical director with Leonardo as advisor

AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini has been appointed the Italian federation's new technical director with Leonardo as an advisor.

The FIGC have begun the task of rebuilding Italian international football following their failure to qualify for the World Cup for a third successive time.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, former AC Milan defender and captain Maldini is set to be named as their new technical director, agreeing to a four-year deal.

Maldini’s new position is unheard of in the federation and will oversee the appointment of the next manager and the entire national-team pathway.

In addition, former AC Milan teammate and colleague Leonardo will join the 58-year-old in an advisory capacity.
