Nice close to signing Laurent Abergel after Lorient exit

FC Lorient have confirmed that captain Laurent Abergel has mutually agreed to terminate his contract, despite having three years remaining on his deal with the Breton club.

According to L'Equipe, the 33-year-old midfielder is now set to join Nice after reaching an agreement with the Ligue 1 side.

Abergel is expected to travel to the Cote d'Azur in the coming days to complete his move to the Allianz Riviera, having already agreed personal terms with Les Aiglons.

Reports suggest the experienced midfielder was determined to seize the opportunity once he became aware of Nice's interest.

He quickly negotiated his release with Lorient, allowing him to leave as a free agent. The Marseille-born midfielder now looks set to begin a new chapter after several influential seasons at the Stade du Moustoir.
