7M - Switzerland 2-1 Canada: Murat Yakins side secure top spot in World Cup Group B with narrow victory

Switzerland claimed the first place in Group B at the World Cup after a 2-1 triumph over co-hosts Canada, driven by two second-half strikes.

Following a cagey first half at BC Place that favored the co-hosts, the Swiss broke the deadlock just 40 seconds into the second period. Ruben Vargas completed a fluid team move to put his team ahead.

Johan Mamzambi doubled the lead just before the hour mark to put Switzerland in control, but Canada substitute Promise David pulled one back with 15 minutes left on the clock to set up a tense finish.

The result allows Switzerland to advance as group winners with seven points. Canada also progress to the round of 32 as runners-up with four points.
