Declan Rice gives crucial injury update ahead of Ghana clash: I’m fit and raring to go!
Declan Rice has handed fans an update on his injury status before England face Ghana on Tuesday night.
The Arsenal midfielder left the pitch after feeling discomfort during the second half of England’s opening World Cup win over Croatia last week.
Rice was seen nursing his back and hamstring, leading to worries about his involvement at the World Cup alongside teammate Bukayo Saka who is still suffering from a Achilles injury.
As England make their way to Boston, Rice handed an update to fans who will be pleased that not only is he fit but that Saka is also set to bounce back to his old self as he recovers behind the scenes.
"Yes, I’m ready. I’m fit and raring to go. I think it was a smart decision (to take me off).
“I was feeling a little bit of neural pain in my hamstring which I was managing after Christmas with Arsenal for a very long time. Obviously, not a lot of people would’ve known, it was all behind the scenes stuff."
"It was a smart decision," Rice added. "The last 20 minutes is where you probably pick up most injuries. That last 20 minutes is where you really feel your body going through it. The last few days I’ve felt really, really good."
When asked if Saka can still make an impact:
"One hundred per cent, yes. It’s been really good the way we’ve been managing him.
“The amount of football he’s played, I’ve seen him at Arsenal with this Achilles problem he’s got I think we’re managing him the right way. You don’t want to put him in straight away now and put him at risk."
England are the favourites to win on Tuesday night and with Rice and Saka ready to make an impact for manager Thomas Tuchel, the Three Lions are likely to seal their place in the next round.
