Florian Wirtz will not make his way to Chelsea this summer to reunite with Xabi Alonso at Chelsea.

Wirtz starred as Germany beat Ivory Coast 2-1 and confirmed a place in the World Cup knockout stage, with the Liverpool midfielder pulling off another sublime performance.

Despite signing for the Reds last summer, reports have indicated this week that the German midfielder is hoping for a move to West London as he becomes one of Alonso’s first major transfer targets.

Now, these reports have been quashed by Football.London who state that there is no truth in such rumours and even if the club are targeting at least two starting-level players to join Alonso's squad.

The move would have come as a shock to fans as not only are transfers rare between the two Premier League rivals, but also Wirtz is only just settling in on Merseyside.

Wirtz managed eight goal contributions in 33 league appearances overall in his first season for Liverpool following his 3100M+ move and has shown glimpses of his old self when he lifted the league title with Bayer Leverkusen.

He started 40 of his 49 matches in all competitions, scoring seven goals and assisting eight for manager Arne Slot who has since stepped aside for former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola who will likely laugh at such Chelsea rumours as he looks ahead to the new campaign.
