Spanish winger Lamine Yamal expressed his deep admiration for Lionel Messi following the Argentina captains sensational hat trick against Algeria. Messi spectacular performance guided the defending champions to a dominant 3-0 victory in their tournament opener at Kansas City Stadium.
The incredible treble allowed the eight time Ballon d Or winner to match Miroslav Klose as the co all time top scorer in World Cup history with 16 goals. At 38 years and 357 days old, Messi also broke Roger Milla record to become the oldest player to score a brace or more in a single World Cup match. Additionally, he became only the second footballer after Cristiano Ronaldo to score across five different World Cup tournaments. Speaking to RTVE, Yamal stated that Messi is undeniably the greatest of all time, noting that while Neymar remains his personal idol, Messi stands alone at the top.
Meanwhile, Yamal played just 19 minutes in Spain frustrating 0-0 opening draw against Cape Verde due to fitness management. The Barcelona attacker confirmed he is ready to feature as a substitute but is not yet fully prepared for a complete 90 minute appearance ahead of Spains next Group H match against Saudi Arabia in Atlanta.
