Morocco midfielder Ismael Saibari has secured his place in World Cup history by netting the fastest goal of the 2026 tournament during a match against Scotland in Boston.
Just 69 seconds into the game, the PSV Eindhoven player capitalized on a precise through ball from Brahim Diaz. Saibari drove in from the right wing, moved into the penalty area, and fired a powerful right footed shot into the top corner past goalkeeper Angus Gunn.
This historic strike marks Saibari's second goal of the competition, following his opener in a 1-1 draw against Brazil. The early goal broke Hakim Ziyech's previous national World Cup record of four minutes set against Canada in 2022. It also eclipsed Michal Sadilek's five minute goal for the Czech Republic against South Africa to become the quickest goal of the 2026 tournament so far.
Furthermore, Saibari's effort is now the second fastest goal in the history of the Moroccan national team, trailing only Soufiane Alloudi's goal against Namibia in 2008. On the continental stage, it stands as the second quickest World Cup goal scored by an African player, finishing just one second behind Asamoah Gyan's 68 second strike for Ghana against the Czech Republic in 2006.
