Colombia secured a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan in their FIFA World Cup Group K fixture at the Mexico City Stadium.
The match began with early intensity as Colombia's Johan Mojica received a yellow card in the 7th minute. Uzbekistan responded with physical play, leading to a caution for Abdukodir Khusanov in the 34th minute. The deadlock was broken in the 40th minute when Colombia's Daniel Munoz found the back of the net to give his team a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
Uzbekistan made two changes at halftime, introducing Dostonbek Khamdamov and Farrukh Sayfiev for Oston Urunov and Sherzod Nasrullaev. The substitutions paid off in the 60th minute when Abbosbek Fayzullaev scored an equalizer for Uzbekistan, following a VAR review that confirmed the goal.
However, Colombia quickly restored their advantage just five minutes later, with star forward Luis Diaz scoring in the 65th minute to make it 2-1. Colombia's manager Nestor Lorenzo then looked to consolidate his lead, bringing on Jaminton Campaz for James Rodriguez in the 71st minute, followed by tactical substitutions of Richard Rios and Cucho Hernandez in the 79th minute.
Uzbekistan made late efforts, introducing Jakhongir Urozov, Azizbek Amonov, and Igor Sergeev. Meanwhile, Colombia added fresh legs in stoppage time as Andres Gomez and Kevin Castano came on in the 90+2 minute. Colombia sealed the three points deep into stoppage time when substitute Jaminton Campaz scored in the 90+9 minute, finalizing a 3-1 victory.
