Carrick welcomes the return of Marcus Rashford to Man Utd as Barcelona loan move fails
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has welcomed the return of Marcus Rashford as his move to Barcelona collapses.
Rashford is currently part of the Three Lions squad for the tournament being held across North America and is set to start against Croatia on Wednesday night as England kick off their World Cup campaign.
Reports recently claimed that the Catalan club has decided not to trigger the 326M clause to buy the winger as they opted instead to sign Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon for over double the price due to his lower wages and the club believing he will bring more quality to the side.
Rashford spent last season on loan at Barcelona from United, scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists across all competitions as he helped the side to the league title in what was a very impressive spell.
Now, as his move to Spain falls apart, Fabrizio Romano has revealed he has returned to England as Carrick plans to integrate him back into the side.
“Marcus Rashford formally returns to Manchester United as €30m buy option clause for Barcelona has now expired.
“No decision on future yet as Bar7a are still keen on keeping Marcus but only on loan.
“Man United taking their time to make decision.”
Following their match with Croatia on Wednesday, England will also face Ghana and Panama in their remaining World Cup group stage fixture where Rashford should play a huge role ahead of the new campaign.
