7M - Germany Set New FIFA World Cup Scoring Record
Posted Monday, June 15, 2026 by 7M Sport

Germany has officially become the highest scoring country in FIFA World Cup history. A dominant 7-1 victory over Curacao pushed the four-time world champions to a grand total of 239 goals, overtaking Brazil's previous record of 238 goals. Argentina sits third on the all-time list with 152 goals.
The German team has played in almost every tournament, missing only the 1950 edition. Their most lethal attacking display came in 1954 when they scored 25 goals to win the title in Switzerland. Conversely, their lowest scoring campaign occurred in Russia 2018, where they found the net just twice before a group-stage exit. Currently, Germany boasts a +108 goal difference, having conceded 131 goals in their tournament history.
A large portion of Germany's historical success comes from elite individuals. Miroslav Klose leading the pack with 16 goals, making him the top scorer in World Cup history. He is followed by Gerd Muller with 14, Jurgen Klinsmann with 11, Helmut Rahn and Thomas Muller with 10 each, while Uwe Seeler and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge both have 9 goals.
This latest 7-1 win also marks the third time Germany has participated in a World Cup match featuring seven or more goals. The other historical instances include their unforgettable 7-1 win against Brazil in the 2014 semifinals and an 8-0 thrashing of Saudi Arabia back in 2002. Across different generations and tactical setups, Germany continues to prove that their football identity is truly synonymous with scoring goals.
