Man City receive huge boost after Josko Gvardiol news
Josko Gvardiol in action for Croatia

Manchester City are entering a new era without their beloved Pep Guardiola, and their first port of call is to keep some of their current stars.

Josko Gvardiol headlines the list of players Man City want to stay at the Etihad long-term, as doubts over his future continue to circle.

Real Madrid have targeted Gvardiol as a possible improvement to their defence following Jose Mourinho's return; however, City continue to hold talks over a new contract.

The Croatian's current deal expires in June 2028 after signing a five-year contract upon his arrival in 2023. But sporting director Hugo Viana is expected to agree terms with the 24-year-old before the start of the new season, according to Sportske Novosti, extending his stay in Manchester until at least 2032.

Gvardiol has been a crucial player for the Cityzens since joining three years ago, becoming arguably one of the Premier League's best defenders.

Last season was an indifferent one for him, though, as a broken leg in January meant he missed the majority of the campaign, and appeared just 25 times in all competitions.

On his day, City know he's a guaranteed starter - either as a left-back or in central defence - and securing a new deal would be a great piece of business.
