7M - Qatar 1-1 Switzerland: Boualem Khoukhis late header seals historic point in World Cup opener

Qatar fought back to secure a dramatic 1-1 draw against Switzerland in their opening Group B match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in California.

The European side took the lead in the seventeenth minute after Breel Embolo converted a penalty. Switzerland dominated possession and created multiple chances, but Qatari goalkeeper Mahmud Abunada kept his team in the game with several fine saves.
