Pedro Porro said the relief of Tottenham avoiding relegation from the Premier League was like shedding a "100 kilo weight" as he looks forward to a first World Cup with Spain.

Spurs nearly dropped out of the English top tier for the first time since 1978 as the battle for survival went down to the final day of the campaign.

The arrival of Roberto De Zerbi as Tottenham's third manager of the campaign for the final seven games helped steer Spurs to survival.

"Physically and mentally I am much better now when you take off the 100 kilo weight that was on top of us" Porro told a press conference at Spain's training base in Chattanooga on Thursday.

"We had a tough end to the season, but everything worked out in the end, which is the most important thing. Roberto came in and kept us in the Premier League."

Tottenham also finished 17th in the 2024/25 season but those struggles were masked by winning the Europa League to end the club's 17-year trophy drought.

Despite Tottenham's troubles, Porro's performances have attracted interest from other clubs with Manchester City reportedly keen on bringing him back to the Etihad Stadium.

Porro, 26, was contracted to City for three years between 2019 and 2022 but spent all three seasons out on loan.

"About City, I have not read anything, I do not know anything, I am concentrating on the World Cup and then we'll see."
