Harry Kane believes 2026 is his and England's ‘best opportunity’ to win World Cup

England captain Harry Kane believes the 2026 World Cup is their 'best opportunity' to lift the biggest trophy in football.

2026 marks the 60th anniversary since England won their one and only World Cup, Kane and co will be hoping to end the decades of hurt.

England will kick off their World Cup campaign against Croatia, who they lost to in the 2018 semi-finals, on Wednesday (June 17).

Speaking to ITV Football, Kane, 32, opened up on whether this could his final chance to get his hands on the gold trophy.

"I think it's always ‘it could be your last’ because you never know what happens in football. You know what I'm like, I want to play for a long, long time. I feel in my prime, I feel as good as I've ever felt, as I've said before."

Kane has been in the form of his life throughout 2025-26 for Bayern Munich, but even he knows that could all change.

"But I think that hunger is there that, you know, it could be my last. It could be, you never know what happens in football,” he added.

“You never know with injuries what's around the corner. The World Cup for me is the pinnacle of any career. This is my third tournament now."

"I'll probably just say the shape I'm in and also coming off the back of the season I've had is probably the best opportunity maybe I'll get in my career to win the World Cup."
