Dias doubts 2026 World Cup is final act for Messi, Ronaldo & Modric

Manchester City defender Ruben Dias has cast doubt on the idea that the 2026 World Cup will be the final appearance for veteran stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Luka Modric.

The Portuguese centre-back believes there is still strong motivation among football’s greatest names to continue competing at the highest level.

Speaking to A Bola, Dias reflected on the growing narrative that the tournament in North America will be the last global stage for era-defining players like Ronaldo, Messi and Modric.

"Let's see…", Dias added on what winning the elusive trophy would mean. "It is an extra motivation factor," he explained regarding their historic quest.

Argentina face Algeria, Austria and Jordan, Croatia meet England, Panama and Ghana, while Portugal begin against DR Congo before clashes with Uzbekistan and Colombia.
