Leverkusen star Grimaldo admits desire to return to Spain

Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Alejandro Grimaldo has reignited speculation about his future after admitting he still dreams of playing in Spain.

Speaking ahead of his first World Cup appearance, the 30-year-old revealed that a move to LaLiga remains one of his major career ambitions.

“After so many years in professional football, I am used to the fact that there are always rumours throughout my career,” he said.

“I have always said it: I want to return to La Liga. That is one of my goals. I am very happy in Leverkusen, but I have always said that I want to return to La Liga – and eventually I will do so.”

Grimaldo’s comments are likely to spark renewed links with Barcelona, where he spent part of his youth career at the renowned La Masia academy.

Despite his strong performances for Bayer Leverkusen, his long-term future remains uncertain although

He is under contract with the Bundesliga champions until 2027, but his repeated references to returning to Spain could present a challenge for Leverkusen as they seek to retain one of their key players.
