Liverpool make Joe Gomez decision following Ibrahima Konate exit update

Liverpool star Joe Gomez is set to reject a summer transfer exit.

The Reds are on the hunt for a new head coach following the club's call to sack Arne Slot with Andoni Iraola the front runner to replace the Dutch coach.

Key duo Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson have already departed as free agents and Ibrahima Konate is on course to follow them out the Anfield exit door after failing terms on a new contract.

The Frenchman's current deal will expire whilst he's away on FIFA World Cup duty in June and Liverpool are undecided over a move into the transfer market to sign a replacement.e

Club captain Virgil van Dijk remains under contract for another year, with Jeremy Jacquet joining from Rennes in the coming weeks following a January agreement with Rennes, and Giovanni Leoni is on track to return for preseason after months out with an ACL injury.

Reports from Mail Sport indicate Gomez has been persuaded to stay and complete the final year of his contract in what will be his 12th and final campaign on Merseyside.

Van Dijk started all 38 of Liverpool's top-flight games in 2025/26 with Jacquet both on the comeback trail following long term injuries, so retaining Gomez could be a sensible move, and he could break the 300-game mark next season.
