Jose Mourinho wants Man City star to fix key Real Madrid problem

Jose Mourinho's return to Real Madrid has been held up for several reasons, but it appears the Spanish giants are planning for life with him.

The primary reason behind the delay is the upcoming presidential election at the Bernabeu. For the first time since 2006, Florentino Perez will face opposition in an election after businessman Enrique Riquelme officially announced his candidacy.

Sources close to Mourinho are confident Perez will win the election, and if he does, the Portuguese boss will sign a contract with Los Blancos and begin his transfer plans.

According to Spanish outlet El Nacional, super agent Jorge Mendes has already offered Mourinho the chance to sign Manchester City centre-back Ruben Dias.

Dias isn't entirely convinced by the project at the Etihad Stadium following Pep Guardiola's departure, and one of the world's best defenders could be persuaded by Mourinho's advances.

Real suffered with defensive problems throughout 2025/26, and Dias - who has three years left on his City contract - could resolve their troubles.
