7M - Antony Shares Classy Response Following Brazil World Cup Omission
Posted Thursday, May 21, 2026 by 7M Sport

Real Betis winger Antony dos Santos expressed a mature and emotional reaction on social media after being left out of the final Brazil squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Despite a strong resurgence in LaLiga under club contract until 2030, the 26-year-old Olympic gold medalist from Tokyo 2020 could not secure a spot in the squad selected by Carlo Ancelotti and the Brazilian Football Confederation.
The winger had previously featured in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, but faced a difficult period at Manchester United between 2022 and 2025 alongside domestic violence allegations that sidelined him from the national team. Although Ancelotti called him up for World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay in 2025, Antony remained an unused substitute. His exclusion, alongside players like Joao Pedro, Richarlison, Eder Militao, and Natan, has sparked considerable debate.
Reflecting on the decision on Instagram Stories, the Sao Paulo-born forward shared his sadness about missing out on another World Cup but emphasized his pride in his journey. He stated he will fully support his teammates from afar as they chase Brazil's sixth title, noting that his football dream remains very much alive. Looking ahead, the 2030 FIFA World Cup in Spain could serve as his next major international objective.
