Atletico Madrid want to sign one of Xabi Alonso's most important Chelsea players

Xabi Alonso will be adamant about keeping his best players, including Marc Cucurella, once he officially joins the club on July 1.

The Spaniard signed a four-year contract at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, marking the start of a potentially exciting era for Chelsea supporters.

Alonso was the best manager available on the market to Chelsea, and in securing his services, they will want to support him as much as possible.

That includes fending off approaches for some of his best players, with Sky Sports revealing that Atletico Madrid want to sign Cucurella this summer.

Barcelona have also retained an interest in Cucurella, but they plan to make Joao Cancelo's loan deal from Al-Hilal a permanent switch.

Chelsea's No. 3 is under contract in West London until June 2028, and Alonso will want to retain the services of arguably one of his most important players.

Cucurella is perfect for the left wing-back role in his preferred 3-4-2-1 system, so it makes no sense offloading him to Atletico. The 27-year-old will offer the Blues an incredible attacking outlet under Alonso, having produced four assists in 33 top-flight appearances this term, predominantly playing as a left-back.
