The 21-year-old Lille winger has officially committed to representing Belgium at the upcoming World Cup, following a prolonged pursuit by Spain.

Born in Brussels to Spanish and Italian parents, Fernandez-Pardo represented Belgium across various youth levels. Although he switched his sporting nationality to Spanish in February 2025, he repeatedly declined invitations to join Spains Under-20 and Under-21 squads, rejecting the Royal Spanish Football Federation on four separate occasions. Due to FIFA regulations, returning to his original Belgian federation remained his only alternative after ruling out Italy.
