Manchester United's executive leadership is set to formally suggest Michael Carrick as the club's permanent manager during a pivotal meeting with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim in January 2026, the 44-year-old former United midfielder stepped in as interim head coach. Since his appointment on January 13, Carrick has engineered a remarkable turnaround, securing 10 victories and two draws in 15 matches. Under his guidance, the squad climbed from seventh to third in the Premier League, amassing a league-high 33 points during that span and reclaiming a spot in the Champions League with three games to spare.

Chief executive Omar Berrada and sporting director Jason Wilcox have reportedly concluded that Carrick is the ideal candidate to lead the club long-term. Beyond the results on the pitch, Carrick has earned internal praise for stabilizing the dressing room and his dedication to the academy. While the hierarchy initially planned to wait until the season's end, his immediate impact—highlighted by early wins over Manchester City and Arsenal—has accelerated the decision.

If Ratcliffe approves the recommendation, formal contract negotiations will commence. Carrick’s staff, including Steve Holland and Jonathan Woodgate, are also expected to receive new deals as part of the transition.
