USMNT and Lyon star Tessmann suffers injury blow before World Cup
The United States have suffered a blow after Tanner Tessmann was ruled out of the final two matches of the Ligue 1 season with a muscle injury.
Lyon manager Paulo Fonseca confirmed the setback ahead of the club’s clash with Toulouse, where the American was set to face compatriot Mark McKenzie.
"Tanner has a muscle strain," he said. "He won’t play again until the end of the season. Everyone else is ready."
The midfielder has been an important figure for the French top-flight side this season, making 29 Ligue 1 appearances while also featuring in the Coupe de France and Europa League.
In fact, he scored a memorable winning goal against FC Utrecht in September.
Tessmann has also become a regular for the United States men's national soccer team, making six appearances in 2025 and playing against Belgium and Portugal earlier this year ahead of the upcoming World Cup.
