Vincent Kompany could become future Man City boss after fulfilling promise

Vincent Kompany once dreamed of becoming Manchester City manager, and it could become a reality in the future.

Kompany achieved legendary status at the Etihad Stadium as a player, captaining Man City to four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four League Cups across a decade-long stint.

Since hanging up his boots, the once defensive stalwart is now a master tactician and is currently regarded as one of the best managers in the world at Bayern Munich after earning his stripes at Anderlecht and Burnley.

Having achieved incredible success at Bayern, despite losing in the Champions League semi-finals to Paris-Saint Germain, Kompany has coincidentally fulfilled a dream of becoming one of the world's elite.

Speaking in March 2023, the Belgian admitted that City need the best manager in the world, and that wasn't him at the time.

"I think City should always have the best manager in the world, and that is not me," he said via BBC Sport.

"They have the best manager in the world today and I hope he stays for another 10 years.

"If not, they should have the best manager in the world after Pep. From my side, I am way down the ranking so there isn't even a second in my thoughts when I am busy with that.

"My goal is I am looking forward to coming up against better managers - I live for that. My biggest strength is that if I fail, I get back up, I come back stronger - and that process is more important for me now."

Kompany has undoubtedly established himself as an elite manager in world football, and he's already been identified as Guardiola's long-term replacement.

Of course, it would take a lot to prise him away from Bayern, but having fulfilled a dream of becoming one of the best, he's more than ready to make a legendary return to the Etihad one day.
