Carrick "waiting for formal talks" with Man Utd as Fernandes backs him to get the job
Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick is waiting for the call to become the club's permanent head coach.
Carrick has led Man United into next season's Champions League after beating rivals Liverpool 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.
The former midfielder has guided the Red Devils to 10 wins, two draws and two defeats from their 14 matches in what is an incredible revival since the departure of Ruben Amorim earlier this season.
Having beaten Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea, there is no doubt in supporter’s minds that Carrick should be handed the permanent job.
Now, as per Ben Jacobs, Carrick is waiting for the call from the United board who reports suggest are ready to offer him a deal.
“Michael Carrick is waiting for formal talks with Manchester United, but is a strong contender for the role.
“#MUFC want to speak to multiple candidates as part of a thorough process. Qualifying for the #UCL will not alter that plan. Several senior players, including Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha and Harry Maguire want Carrick to stay.
“Carrick is part of recruitment meetings for next season. Manchester United had wanted to include Thomas Tuchel in their process prior to the England boss extending his contract.”
Carrick became only the sixth manager, and the first Englishman, to win eight of his opening nine Premier League matches. He is by far the favourite to take the roll and now with backing of captain Fernandes, he will surely be handed the job ahead of next season.
