Man City to open contract talks with Foden despite falling out of favour with Guardiola
Phil Foden is to enter contract talks with Manchester City as he decides on his future.
It is now zero goals in his last 24 appearances for Foden, whose season has fallen off a sheer cliff since his fine form before the Christmas break.
Since 2024, the arrivals of Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, Antoine Semenyo, Omar Marmoush, and Savinho have led to Foden being brushed aside by Pep Guardiola who has no time for players add nothing in attack.
The forward was named PFA Players’ Player of the Year in 2024 but his downfall has been consistent in the past two years as his goal contributions and appearances in the side are cut down.
Despite this, The Times report that City are clear that they do not want to lose the England international are reported interest from top sides such as Barcelona grows.
The academy graduate scooped the PFA Players’ Player of the Year in 2024 and Guardiola, who could leave this summer, is clearly keen on helping the club secure his signature on a new long term deal ahead of the summer window.
It has been a while since Foden was handed a Premier League start and he is unlikely to feature against Everton on Monday night as Guardiola puts together a side that has been productive in attack in recent months.
Tying down Foden to a new deal seems like a priority but after a lack of game time under Guardiola, the 25-year-old may be thinking about a move away from the side which may suit his career.
