According to Spanish outlet AS, club officials have begun to question whether Balde remains indispensable to their long-term plans. The 22-year-old Spain international, who joined Barcelona's academy at age seven and progressed under Ronald Koeman, had been a consistent starter through the tenures of Xavi Hernandez and Hansi Flick.

That status shifted in early 2026 following the return of Joao Cancelo on loan from Al-Hilal. Initially met with skepticism by some supporters due to his previous unsuccessful spell in 2023-24, the Portuguese defender has thrived under Flick's tactical system.
