7M - Hugo Lloris Open To France Return For 2026 World Cup

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has indicated he would not reject a potential recall to the France national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to reports. The 39-year-old, who announced his international retirement three years ago following France's penalty shootout defeat to Argentina in the 2022 final, remains open to reconsidering his decision for this summer's tournament.

Lloris, who played the full 120 minutes in that 3-3 draw before France lost on penalties, previously stated he preferred to step away while still performing at the highest level. However, French outlet L'Equipe suggests he could be selected as Les Bleus' third-choice goalkeeper for the World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Despite the possibility, Lloris is not expected to actively lobby for inclusion, choosing instead to show respect for current squad contenders. Mike Maignan remains France's established number one, while backup Lucas Chevalier has seen his standing diminish at Paris Saint-Germain. Other candidates including Alphonse Areola, Jean Butez, and Robin Risser have yet to fully persuade head coach Didier Deschamps.

Currently playing for LA FC in Major League Soccer, Lloris has recorded nine clean sheets this season. He joined the American club on a free transfer from Tottenham at the start of the 2024 campaign after 447 appearances across 12 years with the English side. With 145 international caps, he still holds the record for most appearances for France.
