Carrick reveals secret meeting with Sir Jim Ratcliffe as he prepare to take permanent job

Manchester United interim boss Michael Carrick has revealed that he has held a meeting with minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

The Red Devils are third in the Premier League table and will hope to pick up 3 points against Brentford on Monday night in the hunt for Champions League football.

However, Carrick has been given no assurances over his future despite finding immense success since taking over from former manager Ruben Amorim.

Carrick has five games left as interim manager and a win against Brentford would all but confirm that the side will join Europe’s elite next season.

Now, the former midfielder has revealed that has had a meeting with Ratcliffe as talks surrounding his future begin ahead of the summer transfer window.

“Yeah, he came in. We had a chat. We had a cup of tea. Casual chat to be honest, it was nice to see him showing his support, obviously. Yeah, that was it. It was quite informal, but it was nice to see him," Carrick told reporters.

"I think, as a football club, we're hugely connected all the way through. I think it's a big part and I’m really conscious of that's how it should be, and I am trying to do my part with that, as well as is everybody else. So, I've felt that since I've been here since January, for sure.”

United are third in the Premier League table, eight points ahead of sixth-placed Brighton with a game in hand. If European football is secured, Carrick is almost guaranteed the job as he waits for the call from Ratcliffe.

Carrick has won eight, drawn two and lost two of his 12 matches and could pick up another crucial 3 points against the Bees before facing Liverpool this weekend.
