Van Dijk provides crucial Salah injury update: He will get the send-off regardless...
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has revealed that Mohamed Salah will be handed a send off regardless of his injury.
Liverpool's 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace was overshadowed by Mohamed Salah’s injury which saw him substituted in the 59th minute at Anfield after going down clutching his left leg.
The winger, who will leave once the season is over, is now potentially out of his final season at Anfield with a hamstring injury as his fairytale ending at the club is shot down.
Following the injury, Van Dijk admits that Salah will receive a warm goodbye from fans on the final day at Anfield as he works his way back to full fitness.
“I know he is doing everything in his power to be back on the pitch as soon as possible.
"If you get injured at this stage of the season, especially in the situation he is in, there is only two more home games left for him it’s a combination of feelings that go through your mind when you go off.
"The reality is he has to get scanned, assessed, hopefully he won’t be long but at this point I don’t know. Maybe he’s back next week, maybe not. I have no idea.
"He will get the send-off regardless," Van Dijk added. "I don’t think that is the thing at this point, we shouldn’t think too far ahead. Knowing Mo he is a quick healer with the right people around us and let’s see."
Salah clapped all four stands as he slowly made his way off the pitch on Saturday, worrying many as reports suggested that he knew it was his final game.
His tally of 257 goals in 435 appearances for the Reds has him third on the club's goalscorers list, behind Ian Rush (346) and Roger Hunt (285) but he is now unlikely to add anymore to his long list as he waits to say goodbye.
